Seniors read and review a minimum of four Gateway Award nominees for the current school year.

Seniors read and review a minimum of two Missouri Dogwood Nominees or books from the college-bound reading lists provided by the JCHS Library or approved by the librarians.

Seniors read and review a minimum of four books (fiction or nonfiction) of their choice. Students submit titles prior to reading for approval.

Seniors participate in at least two book clubs or reading challenges through the JCHS Library. These two books count towards the required reading.

Seniors participate in a community service project through either the JCHS Library, Epsilon Beta, or the public library that furthers literacy or service to others, i.e. Reading Buddies Program through MRRL, organizing a charitable drive such as the JCHS Library Giving Tree, a self-directed service project approved by the JCHS Library OR received the Jay Reader’s Award during the previous school year.
*Required novels read for JCHS classes do NOT apply toward this award.
